All are welcome....event free and open to the public. Stroll through downtown Hillsboro along with some residential areas and wander through Shute Park with us as we walk our YearRound Event as part of our weekly Summer Strolls.
Meet between 6:15 and 6:25 to register at the Tuality Community Hospital. Registration area is in the waiting area of the hospital. We'll step off at 6:30 sharp! We'll do our 10K route (6.2 miles) and possibly have a leader for a 5K route group and and a just walk a little bit group!
It's time to schedule the Monday Evening Summer Strolls. We will select the YearRound Events (YRE) and/or other walks for the summer (May 20th through Aug 12th) season. If you have a special request to do a specific YRE, please comment below, come to our meeting on Monday, May 13th, or contact us via our email address, Facebook page, or Twitter account. We plan to have leaders for a 10K route, 5K route, and a non-volkswalk evening stroll (about 2K or so).
229 walkers enjoyed the Fanno Creek Trail in Tigard, OR. Here's the students from the Westview HS Key Club who provide extra hands to help with the Teddy Bear collectio
Be sure to check out the details on our coming very soon walk! Saturday, March 16 we'll be at McMenamins Greenway Pub on Scholls Ferry Rd for our annual St Patricks Day Teddy Bear Stroll.
Get your GREEN on and be ready to contend with whatever those pesky leprechauns toss our way and bring a new or very gently used teddy bear for the Washington County Sheriffs Office Buddy Bear Program. See the details on the Traditional Walks Page!
It may be cold, but there are many opportunities to walk. Check out the Calendar Page for dates/times/details...there are group walks on Saturdays at 10AM and Sundays at 1PM when there are no traditional walks scheduled; of course, there is the Wednesday Walkers group at 10am every Wednesday throughout the year, and several weekend traditional events already on the calendar!
The Dawson Creek area....lots of pathways and ponds--a wonderful place to stroll!
Please arrive by 9:15 to get registered and ready to walk by 9:30am
On November 17th, we'll return to Dawson Creek to offer a guided walk at 9:30am. We'll have an approximately 30 minute registration period and about 4 people to handle that process...handing out start cards, taking completed start cards, collecting money, and stamping books. We'll send the 5K groups off to their start at the NE corner of the Costco Parking Lot with guides for fast (under 1 hour), medium fast (just over 1 hour), and slow groups (1:15-1:45 or so). Then we'll send out the fast 10K walkers (10K in under 2 hours), about 5 minutes later, the medium speed walkers (10K in just over 2 hours), and then in about another 5 minutes send out the final 10K group of slow walkers (10K in about 2:15-2:30). This way if a walker chooses to walk with the fast group and finds out the pace is too quick, they can drop back and join the slower-paced groups. There'll be no need for trail marking, trail sweeping, checkpoints, or extended start times....maps/directions are ready to go.
All right....the new stamps for the Hillsboro Town and the Forest Grove YearRound walks have arrived. That means these walks will once again be available for your walking enjoyment not later than tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug 27th, by noon....meaning I need to take the walk boxes with supplies to each location in the morning. If you've done these walks in the past, the walk box will be located where it always has been. The Hillsboro box will be in the waiting area on the counter in the corner; the Forest Grove box will be at the reception desk. These are both pleasant walks steeped in history. Go enjoy them!
The Cedar Milers will be taking on the responsibility for the yearround walks from the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro and the Tuality Forest Grove Hospital in Forest Grove on the 1st of September. In the meantime, there's been an minor glitch in that the current club (Tualatin Valley Volks) has picked up the walk boxes from each of these locations, effectively closing them down. We hope to get the materials (stamp, registration logs, etc) soon.....SOOOO, if you have a map feel free to walk the routes and send payment to Cedar Milers c/o 20884 NW Lapine Way, Portland, OR 97229 and we'll see to it that insert cards get stamped and sent to you as soon as we get the stamps in our possession. We unfortunately do not have a copy of the maps so participation will be limited to those who do, or who can remember the route. We'll let you know as soon as we have the walks back up and running....see you on the TRAILS!
We headed out from the Zoo a little late (heavy traffic and expecting some others to show) but here are my hiking partners after the first section of trail entering Council Crest Park. From there, we headed back downhill all the way to the Marquam Shelter by Sam Jackson Rd, then back up the hill to the back of OHSU. From there it was ride the rest of the way...tram to the Waterfront, trolley (Portland Streetcar) to downtown Portland, and train (MAX) back to the Zoo.
All those who thought it would be too hot....the trail through the trees was actually pleasant, even slightly cool.
